I trust that all of our mothers in the community (mums of students, grandmothers, the staff who are mums) had a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday. I hope you were suitably spoilt by your children and told how much you are loved and appreciated!
As we begin Term 2, our Year 3s and 5s have undertaken NAPLAN this week, the first time for all students as the tests were cancelled in 2020. Everything has gone very smoothly thanks to the meticulous organization of Michelle and the classroom teachers, and the children have not seemed too anxious nor overwhelmed. Whilst we will carefully analyse the results when they arrive in a few months, we are always aware that these tests are just one way in which we monitor the learning of students, which in turns informs our teaching and learning programs.
Many of you have shared your concerns with me regarding the Peddagamalla family and the children still in hospital in India. Bhavagna and Palvith are recovering steadily from their injuries, the nature of which means they will be in hospital for some time. The family’s connections here are working hard to ensure the children return to Australia as soon as they are able, and ultimately to school here at St Bernadette’s. I have personally spoken to a number of these family connections, as well as our local MP and personnel from the Premier’s Department. Given that the children’s extended family is in India though, there is much to be worked through before they can return. For now, of most importance is their emotional wellbeing and the recovery from their physical injuries. Please keep them in your prayers and I will continue to update you and the children as appropriate.
If any of you have young children due to start school in 2023 (or 2024) and you haven’t completed an enrolment form, please do so as a matter of urgency. We have a large cohort of children beginning next year so places may become limited. Also, if you know of friends or neighbours looking for a school, please encourage them to contact the Font Office to make a time for a tour as soon as they are able.
