Term 2 has started with great momentum, marked by a number of whole school events within the first fortnight.
In Week 1, we gathered as a school community in the Commons for an Easter Liturgy, beautifully led by our Year 6 Student Leaders. This celebration allowed us to reflect on the joy of Easter Sunday together—something we often miss when the holiday period overlaps with the end of Holy Week. Coming together in this way reinforces the true meaning of Easter and the hope found in the resurrection of Jesus.
Our Year 6 students also took part in their first Journey to Emmaus day this week. This program provides them with a valuable opportunity to grow as leaders, connect with peers from four other schools in our region, explore scripture, and reflect on their personal faith journeys. It also encourages open conversation about their goals, hopes, and fears as they prepare to transition into secondary school. The Journey to Emmaus has been a meaningful part of leadership development for many years, and we’re proud to see our students engaging so thoughtfully.
In sporting news, 19 of our Year 5/6 students participated in the SAPSASA Netball Carnival on Tuesday. All students represented our school with skill and pride, achieving a number of positive results. A big thank you to Mrs Draper, Ms Daly, and Ms Hosking for coaching and supporting our teams on the day.
We’re also pleased to welcome several new staff members to the St Bernadette’s community:
- Harry Densley, Education Support Officer, primarily working in Year 4/5.
- Jemma Bald, who joins us as Daniel Burns steps into an APRIM (Assistant Principal Religious Identity and Mission) role at St Raphael’s, Parkside, on Thursdays and Fridays. Congratulations, Daniel!
- Michael Franz, our new Work Health and Safety (WHS) Coordinator.
You will have noticed that early works on our redevelopment project are now underway. The carpark is closed, the shed has been removed, site huts are in place, and the sandpit area—including several trees—has been cleared. We anticipate exciting progress this term, including the rebuilding of a portion of the playground. By mid-Term 3, we hope to unveil a brand-new sandpit, trampolines, monkey bars, and a climbing frame. Major construction on new facilities is scheduled to begin in the final week of this term.
Naturally, these changes will affect play areas. In response, we are introducing new creative play opportunities in the courtyard, along with organised sports and student-led clubs, particularly as the weather cools. We are confident our amazing students will adapt positively and patiently as our upgraded facilities take shape.
Finally, this weekend we join with the nation in celebrating Mother’s Day—a time to honour the love, care, and dedication of mothers and all those who take on a mothering role. In the Catholic tradition, May is also the month devoted to Mary, the mother of Jesus. This connection is a poignant reminder of the strength, grace, and nurturing love we celebrate this Sunday.
To all the mothers and mother figures in our St Bernadette’s community, we extend our warmest wishes. May you feel truly appreciated this weekend—and always—for the vital role you play in your child’s life.
God bless,
Michelle, Matt and Ben

Celebrating Our Wonderful Mums
This week, we’ve been reflecting on how truly special our mums are and all the amazing things they do for us every day. In class, we shared heartfelt stories with our friends about why we love our mums and what makes them so important in our lives. To show our appreciation, we’ve begun crafting beautiful Mother’s Day cards and gifts—small tokens of love to say a big “thank you.”
As part of our learning, we also explored the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus. We learned how special she was to be chosen by God for such an important role. Mary is often seen as a symbol of love, strength, and devotion—qualities we see in our own mums too. As the Bible says in Luke 1:28, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary’s faith and love remind us of the deep care and guidance our own mothers give us each day.
We look forward to celebrating all our amazing mums this Mother’s Day!
